Whats the feeling of putting maps on walking blogs.
I know the OS map is copyrighted, so that out.
I'm thinking of taking my GPS track log from memory map, and redoing the map by hand with navigation and direction notes, distances and directions and important landmarks, a la walkingbritain.com style.
I'm gonna trial this over the next few days on the Ingleborough / Twistleton scar walk on my blog (the latest entry), I'll post when I've done it and see what you lot think.

You mean something like my outline maps that I produced at one time, see an example here (click the Outline Map icon).
A quicker alternative (if you know enough about programming and webmastering) is to use OS OpenSpace to display your track on real OS maps hosted on their site, provided your site remains strictly non-commercial. |

Try Umapper, they've just updated so that it'll import data from most mapping software. It's free, uses Microsoft Virtual Earth, Google, OpenStreetMap or Yahoo, it's flash-based, no copyright issues.

| Here's a link to an example I just created - I saved a Memory-Map route as a .GPX file, then imported it into Umapper, ends up like this: >>> http://www.umapper.com/maps/view/id/13551/ |

Jeff
Seen your site before possibly on livefortheoutdoors, very impressed with the writeups, being added to links on my site as well for future reference.
UMapper looks good, will give that a go. However looking to annotate it a bit, so will probably use both eventually, with something similar to Jeffs with annotations and the zoomable map on umapper for a zoomable view. _________________ Blog : http://www.seanliquorish.co.uk/blog

Morning,
You could also try 'map my walk' too...they use a Google API, which is copyright free as I understand it...might be worth mapping out then using a screencapture to well, capture your screen!
w ww.mapmywalk.com
www.download.com - lots of free screencaptures here ('snag it' is really good for editing them but is £25)
