Please don't be offended, but I wouldn't call it a blog in the usually-accepted sense of the word. More of a news&advertisement site that just happens to be using a blog platform instead of a website. To me, it seems too impersonal - I read the first page and struggled to find the words "I" or "we", even in the test results, which makes me wonder whether you've actually tested the kit yourself, rather than post results from elsewhere. Are you the "tester" that the text keeps referring to?

That said, the layout, use of images and colour, variety of font etc. are good, easy to read.

Mind you, that's just my opinion, which is usually worth jack!

welcome to the forum,
it would be nice to see you participate here, and be an active member. Otherwise we may just get the impression that you are just trying to use us to drum up business and free advertising. Which would not be taken very kindly.

Interesting. Something not related to the topic here:
the owner of this blog recently posted a comment at my "Dirt Bagging" article; however, it seemed that he didn't know who is the site owner of my blog.

Shall I be the first to say this?

This seems to be a fatuous attempt at hi-jacking this forum for personal gain.

We should bar this joker from our forum.

Love and kisses

No offence and all that...

Maybe if they gave us all free gear, the mods will let them stay Laughing

Alan

Admin are currently reviewing the whole forum with a view to producing a clear and comprehensive membership policy to be published on the board either as a download document or in FAQ style. We're working on it right now.

Until then, Lay has overall authority, maybe you should contact him regarding your concerns.

In all fairness guys I think we are all going to be seeing a lot more of this now, as the bite is beginning to get a firm grip and all retailers, little and large are looking for an edge, no matter how small.

In the last few days I've see quite a few postings all over the place, from 'recently registered' people talking about 'whatever bargains'.

A clear policy is a good way to go to make sure there are as few misunderstandings as possible, so those who wish to take commercial advantage, understand the basic rules.

And I'm sure I'm as guilty as the next etailer in wanting folks to hear about products that we may or may not happen to sell. However I also have another foot in the blogging/podcasting camp with The Outdoors Station, which muddies my particular water a bit. (Need some tablets for that!)

So yes, best of luck and all that, but I think Lay needs to sort those rules to make it a level playing field.

I find the aquagear survivor filter bottle does the job better than tablets Laughing

I'd flagged this one yesterday to the moderators for their attention.

Until the board policy has been rolled out for review (its imminent - honestly) for the present I guess its benefit of the doubt with this one.

Personally, like many other earlier comments , its not quite what I expect from a blog i.e. its non personal and non contributory relying on others to provide the content

Of course if yetanotherben wants to pop in and explain a bit more it would be helpful

I have extended an invite to do just that via the site's 'contact us' facility.

Thanks to a sterling effort by BG! the first draft of the new forum policy is currently in review stage.

Honestly you guys, I joined the forum to advertise my blog, that's pretty much it. But now I like it actually, and I hope to stay active and keep posting! I do think you need a way to moniter spam though on the Blogroll. Possible having a requirement that you post 10 times before posting in the Blogroll? Just a thought.

I agree that your blog seems more of an advertisement blog. You need to work on getting your own content. But I do really like the Bookmark! .. Share it! widget on the bottom of each post! How can I get it! I don't know why I'm even acting like you are going to post here again... but really if anyone knows how to get a sharing tool like that I'd love to know. I have a few buttons on the bottom of my posts on my blog, backpackingrecipes.wordpress.com (not to just advertise my blog again!), and honestly I don't really like them... any feedback on them?

Hi Colton

Have a look at http://sharethis.com/, there are plenty of options for adding it to blogs, and even an add-on for the Firefox browser.
I ditched the default installation in favour of a simple code edit to put the icon/link in my post-meta, I reckon it looks neater. I've no idea if anybody's used it yet, though.

It's good that you decided to stick around Very Happy

Most new bloggers post here to advertise their blogs and most are made welcome. To be fair to cheaptents.com there are a reasonable retailer
and I know a few people who have used them in the past, so not necessary spammers, they just went the wrong way about posting on here.

They should of been a bit more open in the first place, that's what annoys people.

End of the day people will look at the blog and if useful will bookmark and use, if not it will go the same way as all the other useless stuff.

Not wanting to P155 on anyone parade but I notice that a lot of the recipes you have are from other sources; freezer bag cooking, one pot cooking

haha your so right. I'd say half my stuff is from other sources, and I am working on getting my own content. But I think we can agree it's not as bad as this guy's ^
